Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada - in association with the annual GAC-MAC Conference

Catamarca, Argentina - April, 2013

Brisbane, Australia - the 34th International Geological Congress i in August 2012

Bangkok. A meeting was held in February 2012 followed by field visits to examine coastal erosion and subsidence issues having been postponed from 2011 because of severe flooding in Bangkok.

Windhoek. In 2010, the Gem Annual Meeting was held in Windhoek, Namibia with support from the Geological Survey of Namibia. The meeting was accompanied by two days of presentations and working group discussions followed by a three day field excursion to the Naukluft-Namib Nastional Park.

Montevideo. In 2009, the GEM annual meeting and workshop was held Oct 12 and 13 in Montevideo, Uruguay in conjunction with the 3rd Hemispheric Conference on Medical Geology (View or Download Info).

Oslo. In August 2008, the GEM annual meeting was held in Norway, in conjunction with the 33rd International Geological Congress 2008 (IGC), held each 4 years by its parent body the International Union of Geosciences (IUGS). A Special Edition GEM Newsletter was released in August as part of the International Year of Planet Earth. 


Atibaia. The IUGS-GEM presented the International Workshop on Geosciences for Environmental Management, on October 22, 2007 in Atibaia, State of Sao Paulo, Brazil. This included presentations of activities of the GEM working groups, focusing on the scientific themes of the International Year of Planet Earth (2007-2009) [PDF].


Putrajaya.  The International Symposium on Cities and Conservation took place in Putrajaya, Malaysia on Novermber 6th and 7th, 2006. It was focussed on the capacity, management and financing of conservation in cities.
